GATE 2022 Exam

It is not officially declared who will conduct GATE 2022 and students can expect the official announcement by the 3rd week of July 2021. Every IIT becomes a conducting body every 8 years and as per the trend, IIT Kharagpur will be conducting GATE 2022. Once they release the official notification for GATE 2022, the application form will be available in September. By October second week, the application portal will be closed and the admit cards will be available to download in January 2022. Usually, the exam is conducted in February, even though GATE 2021 was an exception (It has been postponed to July due to Covid 19).

What’s new in GATE 2022

The GATE 2021 committee has introduced three important changes to the syllabus and eligibility criteria to widen the scope of the exam in the post-covid situation. These additions will apply to GATE 2022 unless the official body brings out any further changes.

  1. Third-year B.E/ B.Tech students ( 10+2+3 ) are eligible for appearing for the GATE exam. The GATE score will be valid for 3 years.
  2. Opportunity to appear for two GATE papers. However, students cannot choose two random papers but from a set list of subject combinations published by the authority. It is not compulsory to choose two papers, and it is completely fine if you want to write only one.
  3. Addition of two new subjects to GATE – Environmental Science and Engineering (ES) and Humanities and Social Science (XH)

Eligibility for GATE 2022

As per the latest eligibility criteria, students from Commerce and Arts backgrounds can also apply for GATE 2022 along with Engineering/ Technical/ Science students. Another advantage of this competitive exam is that there is no age limit specified for writing this exam. Unlike before, third-year engineering students can also apply for this exam now. The postgraduates from enlisted streams are also considered eligible for writing the GATE exam. The applicants can attempt the exam any number of times as far they meet the eligibility criteria.

Application Process of GATE 2022

The interested and eligible students can apply through the official website of the institution that conducts the examination. Since one of the IITs is conducting GATE 2022, the application should be made through their official website. GATE 2022 Exam

GATE is a computer-based exam with objective type questions. The exam duration is 3 hours and there will be 65 multiple choice questions worth 100 marks. The candidates are required to choose the correct answer(s) from the given options. To encourage interdisciplinary studies, the GATE exam criteria have been relaxed this year. The students can appear for two papers of their choice instead of just one. The combination of the two papers must be chosen from the approved list published by the exam conducting body. Generally, the GATE syllabus has three sections - Verbal Ability, Numerical Ability and Technical Ability. However, for some selected papers, Mathematical Ability is also a part of the syllabus. GATE 2022 syllabus will be released along with the official notification. However, it is advisable that students download the previous year’s syllabus from the official site to understand what to expect in GATE 2022. Finally, the result will be published on the official website in the 3rd week of March. Candidates can see their result through the official portal (GOAPS) using the candidate login details.
