Plastic Engineering - Career Opportunities

What is Plastic Engineering?

More than half of the manufactured goods in the world today are made of plastic, which is an important material in our digital age due to its design, durability, and recyclable nature. Plastic covers many of the home appliances we have today, including toothbrushes, electric kettles, chargers, TV, music systems, golf clubs, cell phones, chairs, and tables. The area of plastic engineering, referred to as the "all-purpose material," strives to research the production of plastic goods.

Plastic Engineering, one of the lesser-known Engineering branches, is concerned with the design, development, processing, production, and manufacturing of plastic products. In other words, it entails the application of engineering and other scientific principles to the production of various types of plastic or polymer products. You will study the properties of plastic products, as well as their design and the process of refining old plastic products into new ones if you pursue Plastic Engineering courses.

Plastics engineering professionals are involved in the design and manufacturing processes of polymer-based products. Now with changing consumer perspectives and a growing preference for lightweight materials, the demand for plastic engineers is increasing.

Huge Opportunities

The Plastics Federation of India estimates that the plastic industry, which is currently registering an annual growth of 10 to 12 percent reached 18 percent by the end of 2017. Similarly, by the end of 2018, the plastic industry attained a market value of US$ 13.34 billion dollars, according to FICCI and other companies. These estimates, considering the number of students currently completing plastic engineering courses, would require thousands of human resources.

Employment Platforms

Automobile companies as employment platforms for plastic engineering professionals, Petroleum products companies, and R&D departments are standing. Candidates who have completed plastic engineering courses will get opportunities in the government sector in the Ministry of Petroleum, ONGC, Oil India Corporation, etc. Plastic engineers are needed in every production industry in the private sector.
