TSPSC Group 1 Prelim Exam - General Studies & Mental ability
With the recruitment for TSPSC Group 1 Government Job Vacancies 2022 getting started, many students have the opportunity to apply. The recruitment process conducted by the Telangana State government offers many prestigious job posts, such as Deputy Superintendent of Police, Deputy Collector, etc.
Of course, this is at par with the civil services, so you can expect the exam to be tough to crack. With many candidates applying for the same post, you need to work on your preparation to stand out. After all, there are only 503 vacancies across the state.
You can find all the syllabus details upon visiting the official website. Now, the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) conducts three rounds of tests for the selection of Group 1 officers via the exam:
- Prelims
- Mains
- Interview
While the marks obtained in the mains exam and the interview will be combined for scoring, you must first qualify for the prelims to be eligible. This screening test filters the more serious candidates for the post.
Exam Prep for Paper - Topics/Chapters Covered
The prelim examination for the TSPSC recruitment will consist of 150 objective-type questions. These questions will be based on general studies and mental ability, and each will carry one mark. You have to answer as many questions as possible to secure your rank and that too within just two and a half hours.
Therefore, you need a thorough preparation for this test as you can only sit for the mains once you qualify for the prelims.
For the qualifying test on general studies and mental ability, you have to answer questions from thirteen different topics. This includes:
- General Science
- Environmental Studies
- Current Affairs

- India’s Economic and Social Development

Preparing for the Exam
You can even prepare on your own, but you have to gather information from as many sources as possible. It is important to watch relevant news on the TV and read the daily newspapers to keep up with the current events.
You will also have to practice solving different papers for training your mind. The analytical sections otherwise can take up too much time. This is a critical error to avoid because you must answer as many questions as possible.
Also, to better memorize all the information, you need to go back to the chapters and revise as much as possible. Going through academic magazines for competitive exams like TSPSC and newspapers is an excellent practice to develop this.
